NO RACE THIS YEAR--2016!!!! (July10, 2016)
NO RACE THIS YEAR--2016!!!!
It is with a heavy heart I must conclude that the Louis Reed Race IS NOT--(as once thought)--"THE RACE FOR EVERYONE."
Lase year, 2015--NOBODY CAME TO RACE and I circled the course myself! I got the blue ribbon.
Maybe individual road racing will come back and then our race will resume. But I cannot see a prospect of any racers interested in riding this year?
It has been a long run. And my "volunteers" who have cheerfully been on our five corners have come each year without hesitation. It is hard to believe the LOUIS REED RACE ran for twenty-five years. But then bicycle people are individualists and such a race has had a select following from the beginning. Our concept is well stated on this BLOGSPOT, but in short it is for those not active in regular competition, but who might look forward and train for a once a year event. We have had no preregistration nor charged any money. But then we have not had the promotion which regular "charity" collection events garner.
So------for now-----we shall call this----going into hiatus.

2015--LOUIS REED'S TWENTY-FIFTH YEAR------IS THE ROAD RACING BIKE DEAD? HAVE ALL BIKE ENTHUSIASTS CHANGED THEIR EQUIPMENT TO OFF ROAD? ------? Actually, there should "be a bicycle for everybody"--every body type and everybody's personal style and fitness.
That is what is wonderful about bicycling. WHY NOT TRY A TEN MILE CAREFULLY TIMED "RACE" WHERE YOU COMPETE ONLY WITH YOURSELF? No "mass starting" or dangerous packs. Each rider is spaced and sent off into the countryside THE SECOND SUNDAY IN JULY---OR THIS YEAR--2015---the formula puts the date at SUNDAY, JULY 12, 2015.
If you have switched to an offroad bike and can ride ten miles----you are welcome with your Mountain Bike----you are only racing your own time. Call for further information:----Eric Westhagen 920-332-4330 or e-mail---mktquant@charter.net (read on and click on all photos for a larger view)

The TWENTY-SECOND YEAR IS HERE! Sunday, July 8----8:15----Barlow Park--S-Watson Street (Main Street) Ripon, WI
Come one, come all. The only race I know of unaffiliated racing, open to all, young or old as long as they are riding a bicycle. After all--YOU ARE ONLY RACING AGAINST YOUR OWN TIME in a TIME TRIAL RACE. No dangerous pack riding. No competition pushing you beyond your physical limits. Only the clock--your own clock! So, help support the continuation of THE LOUIS REED RIPON TIME TRIAL with coming--NOT WITH MONEY. No money is needed or is asked for. JUST COME--YEAR AFTER YEAR. Keep it alive and race--regardless of whether or not you are competitive in your prime--or not so. Any age, any form of bicycle--even recumbents have come.
Our schedule used to be that of a Ripon community festival and we have now long outlived that festival, but retained the date formula. So come as a youth and grow old with our "race for everybody"----THE LOUIS REED RIPON TEN MILE TIME TRIAL IN THE SECOND WEEKEND OF JULY------EACH YEAR. (Sunday, July 8--8:15----Barlow Park--S-Watson St. (Main St) Ripon)
